Places on earth

I think about my place on this earth and in the community I have become a part of and how each person affects ever person they meet.  It's these places that change the lives of the people that inhabit them.  But what is it that really allows us to be in these places?  Is it chance?  Is it fate?  What can I do to change the way these places are perceived?  How do I shape these places and how do they shape me?
